Cross Pen Repair

If you have a pen that you use on a regular basis, like anything, it will need maintenance on occasion. It can be anything from a simple refilling of the ink to perhaps something more serious. A lot of the problems with a pen can be fixed on your own if they are simple problems. Some parts are easily replaced and others need more expert hands.

Honestly, it depends on the pen and the knowledge of the individual. If you are unsure about how to go about something, best thing is to get in contact with cross and ask them directly. Do not attempt something on your own if you aren’t sure, you could make the problem worse.

If you are dealing with cross pens, cross recommends that you send it back for evaluation if you are having any of the following problems.

The finish has become tarnished

You have a Sprung Clip

Any leaking near the nib

A loose fitting cap

If the Nib is damaged

If you are getting poor ink flow in your Fountain Pen you can try to soak the nib and the front section overnight in lukewarm water. Adding a drop or 2 of dish soap helps too. The next day just clean it thoroughly with the converter.

Ball Point Pen Issues

If the refill retracts into the barrel – Try Turning the cap counter clockwise to retract the refill point. Then remove the cap and tighten the refill clockwise. If the Refill isn’t working at all correctly, cross recommends you send it in for evaluation.

If you have a Desk set with a broken pen holder assembly that is covered and should be sent back in for repairs. However, with a broken or chipped base it can be repaired but is not under warranty and will be extra. Replacement pens can be purchased through cross.

If you have a pencil through cross that too can have its issues over time and can be fixed by cross support.

If the lead is not coming out try turning the cap clockwise to put the pencil into the writing position. Check and see that there is lead in the cassette.

If the Lead is retracting when putting any pressure on it, it probably means the current piece is too short and you will need to click out the old piece and advance another into position.

If you are unable to retract the led, it may mean there are two pieces stacked on top of one another, this happens occasionally and is fixed by removing the current piece and then shaking the pen to loosen them up, and then just start another piece and all should be well.

If you are having any other issue and or your pen or pencil is damaged, you should contact Cross support and get their advice about whether it is an issue you can fix or if it needs to be sent in for repairs.
